Missions

Jesus tells us, through scripture, to love God and our neighbor.  Part of the way we love our neighbors is to support local, national, and international mission ministries

The Appanoose County Homeless Coalition is an active ecumenical non-profit organization based in Centerville, Iowa. Established collaboratively by local Christian congregations the coalition focuses on creating local housing and transitional shelter solutions, such as converting acquired vacant properties into supportive residential spaces like "The Lazarus House"

Common Ground Interfaith Alliance is a local ministerial group that is committed to respecting each other's faith and tradition.

We collect funds for the purpose of assisting people in need.  This includes the homeless and those who find themselves in desperate times.  Funds are collected at First Lutheran on a regular basis to assist with this important ministry.

Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) is a trusted nonprofit organization dedicatedto strengthening children, families, and communities across Iowa. Guided by faith-based values and a commitment to service, LSI provides a wide range of programs including child welfare, behavioral health, refugee and immigrant services, services for people with disabilities, and support for older adults. By meeting people where they are and honoring the dignity and potential of every individual, LSI works to create hope, opportunity, and lasting positive change throughout the state.

Founded in 1945 by Lutherans in the U.S., Lutheran World Relief is an international aid and development organization that partners with communities to help them develop productive and stable economies, improve resilience in the face of a changing climate, and respond to natural disasters and humanitarian crises. In 2019, Lutheran World Relief joined the Corus International family, an ensemble of global leaders united in a commitment to ending poverty, suffering and injustice once and for all.

Reaching All People Together (RAPT) is a non-profit organization that is committed to community assistance.  RAPT has volunteers to transport persons to medical appointments within the community and beyond.

Supporting Communities Through the Cycle of Disaster

Since 1973, Lutheran Disaster Response has remained grounded in our mission to share God’s hope, healing and renewal with people impacted by disasters. We recognize that every disaster is local and that community leaders and organizations are best equipped to address needs following a disaster. We accompany partners worldwide across the disaster cycle—response, recovery, mitigation and preparedness—providing financial support, technical assistance, advocacy and networking. This work is relational: we stand with communities, congregations, and synods, social ministry partners, community-based organizations, tribal nations, companion churches and ecumenical partners.
